My Last Minute Indian Mehendi-Sangeet Guest Look

Hello my princesses!

With the wedding season here and so many of you lovelies sending in me pictures of yourself dolled up as the real princesses as you are makes me so happy. So I just thought, why not share in return with you guys my go to look this wedding season? And honestly, this is not a typical wedding look, but a look which I pulled together at the last moment for a friend’s mehendi and sangeet function. Traditionally, a typical mehendi and sangeet is a small cozy function which focuses more on fun and dance than the glam quotient, and this being a last moment call, I quickly got together a look to the best of my abilities and here I am sharing it with you all.

So apparently we all have had those few moments of wedding frenzy when our mums just bomb the news of us having to attend a function in an hours time. I am sure you said hell yes, happened with me too! However much I might enjoy the prospective of getting the opportunity to witness one of the happiest occasions, getting dressed at the last moments notice is always nightmarish.

So the same happened with me and the best idea I could conjure up for a fresh yet stylish sangeet outfit was a plain black kurta with black leggings. Basic and not to forget, ever-so-slimming for a plus size woman. And to add to that slimming effect I chose for a deep neck kurta which had a string at the back to make the back look a little sleeker. But then the next hurdle comes in when the all black outfit starts looking too dull, or to put it in better words, black is sexy, but on colourful occasions like wedding ceremonies it might just look too muted. But that is where our colourful dupattas come in handy. I swear girls, dupattas are a saviour and honestly, they are any Indian woman’s best friend.

Just like how a total black outfit can be amped up with colourful accessories, in the same way a black suit can be taken up a notch by adding not just classy jewellery but a bright dupatta. Monochrome or multi colour, does not matter, just try to opt for something which is a striking contrast to the outfit. Like here I chose a fuchsia base dupatta cum stole with prints in the shade of yellow, purple, pink and orange. Also, the fuchsia pink borders with the golden gotta patti just add a very festive touch to it.

Also, the pom poms added at the two corners of my dupatta make it a real hot-seller in the local markets. Pom poms have been a rage this season and everyone has been adorning them in form of earrings, so i thought of skipping the run-of-the-mill pom pom earrings and preferred to have them on my dupatta instead. And to pair my not so typical ethnic wedding guest look, I topped them off with a pair of conventional punjabi juttis. But instead of choosing a bright and fancy pair, I chose a more kolhapuri version of the same with cutesie pom poms on them which complimented my dupatta pretty well.

So now that my outfit and footwear were sorted, I next thought of whether or not I should be accessorising it. Earrings are sort of a wedding guest look mandatory piece and thus I opted for my favourite silver and white pearl jhumki earrings. My sister got these for me from south India and these silver earrings are really heavy, not just to look at but also to wear. For the rest of it, I did not accesorise. Instead I opted for my favourite Ray Ban aviators as it was a day time function and it added a really fun take to my whole look.

Lastly, My hair are naturally really curly and wavy and they do have a lot of texture and volume to it just after a wash. So to get the best of my hair, I decided to give my hair a quick wash, let them air dry and just left them open. I know some of us crave straight sleek hair for wedding ceremonies and fancy occasions, but the amount of versatility your natural hair has is hands down unbeatable.

So with that we now come to the end of this “My go to last minute sangeet look” which I tried to keep really simple, fresh and elegant. With minimal jewellery and absolutely no hair styling, this simple look with colour scattered at all the right places worked really well for me. What is your go to wedding guest look?
