Although regular exercise and a balanced diet are the best way to achieve a slim and toned body, this may not be enough in some circumstances. After pregnancy or significant weight loss, the stretched abdominal muscles lose their elasticity and cannot shrink back into shape. This causes unsightly, overhanging folds of skin over the belly area which can also lead to problems with hygiene. Especially in hot weather, this may cause rashes or skin infections.
Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove this excess, overhanging skin, creating a taut and smooth tummy area. Various combinations of this surgery may be done depending on the requirements of the patients, like tightening the underlying muscles. In some cases, combining it with a liposuction to remove small areas of fat deposits in the abdomen may give the best results. The surgery can be extended to contour the back or buttocks.

This is not a weight loss surgery and the ideal candidate is someone who is slim but has areas of flabby skin or fat deposits.
The surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia and usually involves one night in the hospital. In some cases, drains may be left in the wound for about 24 hours to drain excess blood and fluid and improve healing. You will be given an abdominal support garment to wear for a few weeks and antibiotics to prevent infection. Depending upon the extent of the surgery, you may need to take a one to two weeks off work and avoid strenuous exercises for six weeks.
The results of a tummy tuck are very satisfying. If you desire a flat, smooth tummy go and see a trained and experienced cosmetic surgeon.
